See How Problem Solving Changes Lives
Lean Six Sigma in Action
See how learners from all backgrounds have applied these skills to achieve success in their work, businesses, and daily lives.
As a corporate CEO, I appreciate the power of Lean Six Sigma, but it wasn’t until I found Mabel Shelton’s children’s book, Never Lose Anything Ever Again, that I realized how this methodology can also teach kids the core principles of critical thinking, responsibility, and problem-solving skills!
Through the principles of the 5S method—Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain—our 4-year-old daughter learned a structured, simple, and fun approach to overcoming challenges which can often seem overwhelming. Thanks to Fifth Sierra — and Mabel’s books — our young daughter now sees difficult tasks as fun and possible. What was once a breeding ground for contention and strife is now a fun activity while also teaching deeper skills that she will take with her into life!

I really was interested in the Lean Six Sigma Program, mostly because I teach business classes. I spent 20 years in a business office. The idea of learning myself and then teaching students a workflow, problem solving, the skills needed to go forward, not just in business but in life, was really appealing to me. I feel like Mabel really gave that to us. Not only does she have years and years of experience in industries I had no idea she had ever been in… that was really amazing! She gave it to us in a way that we could understand; we’re all teachers, we’re very high-strung, we require a lot! I think she did a really good job of communicating with us… I really think that learning this system is beneficial, not just for school teachers, not just if you own a business, but in lots of areas of life, I think it’s all really applicable. I’ve really enjoyed the process.

I thought the training this week was great. It gave me a lot of things I can take back to my classroom… I’m looking forward to giving students the opportunity to earn their Yellow Belt and to become fantastic problem solvers, not only in their homes and in their communities, but also in their future workplaces.

Mabel did a great job of taking a very complex subject matter and streamlining it to where we could grasp the understanding of it; to where we could actually take it and break it down for our students. Through different types of hands-on activities… she did an out-of-the-box approach to make it a little bit easier for everyone to understand.

I’m really excited to take this back to my classroom and teach my students to hopefully get them to become Yellow Belts, and get them on the Six Sigma train, and hopefully get them on a different trajectory for their college and careers.

During a two-day Kaizen meeting, Mabel led a group of managers from different middle-mile transportation support teams. Our goal was to enhance the quality of commercial vehicle collision investigations, a critical area requiring precise and impactful solutions. This workshop was an excellent opportunity to see Six Sigma and Kaizen principles in action through the eyes of a seasoned expert like Mabel. Congratulations, and thank you to Mabel for orchestrating a successful and impactful meeting!

I had the pleasure of working with Mabel on several continuous improvement projects while employed with Embraer Aircraft Maintenance Services. Mabel presented an extremely organized and detailed approach to our issues and sought to solve them with lean principles and practices. During events held in Brazil she brought her expertise to light by development of Kaizen ideas to streamline processes in an organization that was well beyond the curve. I have been completely impressed with Mabel and her abilities for years and she never fails to deliver on this expectation.

I Just completed the Green Belt Program through Fifth Sierra. The course was really well organized. We shortened the course from a 5-day course to a 3-day course, but the amount of information didn’t seem too overwhelming at any point. Mabel did a really good job of breaking up the content and mixing in some group activities, so we weren’t just sitting in one spot for hours at a time. We had plenty of breaks. It made the amount of content that we had to take in easy to digest. That really benefitted me going into the exam. I was able to recall a lot of the information we had learned, and I thought that was really helpful.

“Having spent years practicing and applying continuing improvement concepts across some of the most challenging disciplines, Mabel has shown the ability to drive to the core of processes with a keen eye for capturing and adding the most value possible. Her ability to sit with, and understand the challenges of stake holders, along with the end goals of the organization, combine to not only achieve those goals, but also build a lasting culture of improvement within the busines which pays dividends far into the future. Having worked along side her on numerous projects, the energy, clarity of thought, and relationship driven mindset she brings to the table have left a lasting impression on me, those involved in the work, and by extension the organization as a whole.”
